MICHIGAN APPALOOSA HORSE ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

(For inclusion in the May 2008 issue of Equine Times)Hi Everybody!

Can you believe the winter is over and show season is upon us for another year. A reminder to all members that in order to be eligible for year-end awards, exhibitors must have shown in said class a minimum of 50% or ½ of the MApHA approved shows (judges) where said class is offered. This means if there is a two-judge show it counts as two shows, if there is a four-judge show it counts as four shows. Also, there will only be two age breaks for the youth section this year, they are 13 & under and 14 through 18. If there are any questions please feel free to contact Britney Dillon at 989-243-3523. Also, the show dates are as follows: May 10 & 11 – MApHA Spring Show, Mason, MI; May 17 & 18 – GLApHC Quadrama, Findlay, OH; May 24 & 25 – WMAR Red, White & Blue, Alma, MI; June 7 & 8 – WMAR State Show, Alma, MI; August 2 & 3 – MApHA/WMAR Sizzler I, East Lansing, MI; August 9 & 10 – MApHA/WMAR Sizzler II, East Lansing, MI; and September 13 & 14 – Classic Show, East Lansing, MI. We will be DOUBLE POINTING the Classic Show for MApHA members. This will be a great show to come and earn those extra points you may need! Territory VI of the ApHC had the most entries at shows last year, around 68,000 entries. Lets try to break that record this year….come on out and show with the best.

Our first show is May 10 – 11 in Mason. Youth members do not forget your chili and baked goods for your fundraiser. The Youth will be doing paybacks for a variety of classes over the season; they are as follows: $20 – 1st, $15 – 2nd, $10 – 3rd, and $5 – 4th place. At Spring Show it will be gymkhana classes, Sizzler I – western pleasure, Sizzler II – hunter under saddle, and classic show halter and hunter in hand. This will be done for all youth age divisions. You must be a MApHA member to participate. The Versatility Class begins at this show. You must sign-up and pay the entry fee before your points will count. Select 1 judged performance class, 1 gymkhana class and 1 class of your choice (no two of the same class. The entry fee is a one time fee of $25. You must be a MApHA member and the classes you choose are set for the year.

The Anniversary Committee is looking for old photos for the scrapbook; contact Sharon Clark at 517-589-9711.
